Croatian tennis legend Goran Ivanisevic has become a coach for the world's No. 1 in men's singles and one of the best tennis players of today, Novak Djokovic.

It is still not known whether cooperation between Ivanisevic and the Serbian tennis player will last longer or only for the duration of Wimbledon, which starts on Monday.

The news of their cooperation was confirmed by Ivanisevic.

„For me as a coach, this is a great sign of recognition,“ the 2001 Wimbledon champion said.

“Everything was so unusual, an unexpected call arrived several days ago. I was a bit surprised, I was travelling to Sweden. Nole wanted me to come earlier but my ‘senior tour’ was already arranged. This morning I came to the first training, unfortunately, it seems like I will be able to stay only the first week because of other duties. I am trying to postpone them but there is so much going on… But, when Novak Djokovic calls you, many things are put aside,” retired Croatian tennis player told SportKlub.

He could not specify the details of the deal with Djokovic, explaining they are still getting to know each other.

“I mean, we know each other, we were on the court many times but on opposite sides, this is the first time I’m on his side. We discussed my perception of his game, technical matters. We will meet better now, get closer, and then sit together and see what comes next,” added Ivanisevic.

So far, Ivanisevic coached Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic.
