One of the two workers injured at a construction site in central Belgrade has died of his injuries, N1 was told on Monday.

The two seriously injured construction workers were taken to the city’s Emergency Centre after a wall fell on them on Sunday afternoon. The second man is in stable condition. Both were over the age of 60.

The construction site where they were injured is in the central Cika Ljubina pedestrian street and is part of the Stari Grad municipality whose Mayor Marko Bastac said that he had warned of problems with the construction work being done in the centre of the Serbian capital.

“The two workers were injured at a construction site in Cika Ljubina street which is an example of the chaos created in Belgrade by the corrupt, inexpert and arrogant authorities,” Bastac said in a statement.

He also warned of work being done without the required paperwork and “problematic” permits.
