Sinisa Mali, Serbia’s Finance Minister said in Brussels on Thursday his country was “the champion in economic reforms” with the GDP growth rate of 4.3 percent in 2018, the Beta news agency reported.
In a meeting with the European Commissioner for Budget and Human resources Günther Oettinger, Mali said Serbia achieved substantial economic results in the last period.
“We concluded that our macro and microeconomic results were excellent. The unemployment is dropping, and we have a budget surplus for the third year in a row,” Mali said.
He added that the EU help and support were vital because they cleared the way for Serbia’s economic growth.
“I asked Oettinger to help us open the negotiating chapters dealing with finances as soon as possible to enable us better access to the European and other funds,” Mali said.
