A Serbian start-up won the Power Up competition with its power optimization software for air conditioners.

The SmartCat start-up in the northern city of Novi Sad entered its Optimus Power software in the Power Up competition and won 200,000 Euros in cash and investments at the regional finals on May 21 in Krakow.

The competition featured entries from 24 central European countries with a first prize of 50,000 Euros in cash and investments worth another 150,000.

SmartCat’s Sanja Hajdukovic told N1 that the software uses 30 parameters to analyze each air conditioning unit’s power consumption and optimize its power consumption. She said tests are being completed and an agreement has been reached with the Portuguese company VPS on a strategic partnership.

“The idea is to finish testing by the end of summer and start preparations for production and enter the market in Europe,” she said adding that the response in Serbia was not good leading SmartCat to start off with partners in Portugal.
