The Mayor of the city of Cacak on Monday condemned city hall security for preventing reporters from attending an opposition news conference.

Opposition city council members called a news conference in city hall on Friday and reporters were barred from entering by a security guard. Mayor Milun Todorovic, an official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), said he demanded disciplinary proceedings against the security guard and his boss, both employed by a private company.

“No one can be allowed to be violent, offensive and irresponsible in that place,” the mayor said.

The incident happened on Friday, April 19. The news conference was called by Dveri, New Serbia and a local group of councillors. The security guard tried to stop them from entering the building but the opposition councillors managed to force their way in after some shoving and a verbal incident with the guard.

The opposition wanted to show that city hall was „virtually empty“ because officials and staff had gone to the SNS rally in Belgrade.
