Assaulted Serbian journalist gets police security detail

A Serbian journalist whose home was torched following his reports of embezzlement by local authorities has been given a permanent police security detail.

Zig Info portal reporter Milan Jovanovic told N1 that he will now be escorted wherever he goes by several police officers.

He said he feels safer with the police security detail after the release from jail of the Mayor of Grocka municipality Dragoljub Simonovic who has been indicted for ordering the attack on the Jovanovic family home.

Jovanovic’s house was set ablaze and shots were fired at his front door following his reports on alleged embezzlement by Simonovic. The attackers were arrested quickly and Simonovic was taken into custody later but was released by a court which ruled that he could not influence witnesses or organize another attack.
