Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday that Serbia has become the Balkan Hollywood, according to a post on the Future of Serbia Instagram account which included pictures with actor Johnny Depp.

Vucic visited a film crew making director Andrew Levitas’ movie Minamata about war photographer Eugene Smith who is played by Depp. The movie tells the story of Smith’s photo reports for Life magazine about the devastating effects of mercury poisoning in coastal communities in Japan.

Vucic recalled during the visit that the Serbian government had introduced a decree on stimulation for foreign movie producers four years ago. “A large number of film crews have been coming to the country, satisfied with the conditions, professional levels of film crews and state support. Thanks to Johnny Depp for believing in us and for coming to Serbia to make part of his movie,” he is quoted as saying.

Several photographs of the president with the actor and film producer Dobrivoje Tanasijevic aka Dan Tana were published on the account which bears the name of the president‘s campaign.
