Opposition leader to try to persuade Washington to stop supporting Vucic

The head of the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS), Vuk Jeremic, announced he will officially visit the US next week to “remove the danger” of Washington preventing the change of leadership in Serbia.

The opposition has joined anti-government protests that are being held every Saturday for nearly three months. Protesters want more media freedom, less violent attacks against opposition figures and journalists and an end to the rule of President Aleksandar Vucic, which they describe as authoritarian.

But convincing Washington to stop supporting Vucic will not be easy as judging by the content of two letters President Donald Trump has written to the Serbian President, ”the US is counting on Vucic.”

Jeremic also said that the US are not supporting the boycott of institutions and the early election the Alliance is announcing.

Washington is also not likely to change its stance regarding Kosovo’s independence and Prishtina might get a seat at the UN by the end of this year, he said.
