Maintaining the stability of southeastern Europe and commitment to intensify cooperation is Serbia’s crucial interest, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told the opening session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

He thanked that organization for what he called its principled position in terms of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and for rejecting the possibility of Kosovo becoming its member.

According to Dacic, the countries that did not recognize Kosovo or revoked recognition gave strong support to both Serbia and dialogue as the principle to resolve disputes and reach compromises and lasting solutions. “We are ready to continue talks in good faith as soon as Pristina revokes its unimaginable measure to prevent the free flow of goods in the 21st century and find a lasting and fundamental compromise to resolve the Kosovo issue,” he said.

The common vision of membership in the European Union is an important motivator and that prospect has brought better cooperation and contributed to finding solutions through dialogue with the aim of stabilizing the situation in the region, he added. “We are sometimes faced with obstacles such as the delay in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and Pristina’s irrational moves,” Dacic said.
