The statehood day, February 15, is marked in Serbia in honour of the First uprising against the Turkish occupation in 1804 and the proclamation of the country’s first constitution in 1835, the Beta news agency reported.

The main manifestation is held in Orasac, where the uprising began, with Serbia’s and Republika Srpska, the Serb-dominated entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, officials laying wreaths at the monument to Karadjordje, the leader of the uprising.

On the occasion of the holiday, President Aleksandar Vucic decorated individuals and institutions, including the Bulgarian Prime Minister Bojko Borisov.

Vucic received many congratulating messages from world’s leaders, with the US President Donald Trump saying that “the US remains firm in supporting your commitment to deepen the regional cooperation and especially to your engagement in solving the Kosovo issue.”
