Belgrade and other Serbian cities will get new stationary security cameras which will help the police in the solving crimes and traffic violations, said Police Director, Vladimir Rebic, adding that 1,000 cameras will be placed across Belgrade by 2020.

Speaking to Serbian Radio Television, he said that there is no way someone could tamper with the cameras.

“This system will facilitate the police work significantly, and it will raise the citizens’ awareness against unacceptable forms of behaviour, so they would not be sanctioned,” Rebic said.

Cameras will be placed in several phases. Ten new cameras will be placed in Belgrade, in March 2019, 50 in June, 200 in September and 400 by the end of the year, and by 2020, Belgrade will have 800 more security cameras.

These cameras will be able to recognise licence plates and have face detection capabilities.
