Top officials in Pristina are in disagreement over the tariffs imposed on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina with Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli saying they should be suspended and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s party rejecting that possibility.

Veseli said on Monday that the tariffs should be suspended for a period of 120 days. “If we do not have a new situation after 120 days, with Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina changing their behavior fundamentally, the tariffs will resume along with other decisions which automatically lead to full reciprocity with those two countries,” he wrote on his Facebook account.

He also warned that Kosovo does not need to oppose the United States and European Union. “On the contrary. Setting conditions to our main strategic partners will not help Kosovo defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity and continue on the path of EuroAtlantic integration,” he said.

Haradinaj’s Alliance for the Future of Kosovo responded to Veseli’s proposal saying that no such decision would be taken. Alliance MP group chief Ahmet Isufi told the portal gazetablic.com that the tariffs will remain in place. “I won’t comment statements by others but the tariffs remain in place because Serbia is reinforcing its anti-Kosovo activities,” he said.
