In two separate operations in Belgrade and the northern city of Novi Sad, Serbia’s police apprehended nine officers, a retired traffic expert and a citizen, all suspected of taking part in some corruption cases and abuse of office, N1 reported on Friday.

In its statement, the Interior Ministry said that in the first action three police officers from the Belgrade Zemun municipality were arrested on suspicion of unlawfully checking some people’s ID numbers and then passed them on to “individuals who asked them for it.”

The others are suspected of stealing money from a home of a deceased, taking a bribe for not reporting traffic offenders and forging Euro 50 banknotes.

The suspects will remain in 48-hour police custody.
