Nebojsa Stefanovic, Serbia’s Interior Minister, said on Friday the police arrested 150 people suspected of different crimes and raided dozens of homes, including those belonging to some “powerful people believed to have links to drug cartels”, N1 reported.

Stefanovic said Belgrade also issued the red Interpol warrant for Filip Korac suspected “of the most serious crime.”

Korac is believed to have taken control of all criminal business in Serbia and the region after a notorious gang leader who used to pull all the strings was arrested.

“In cases like those, it’s not always easy to collect evidence. But we will try to find enough to see the cases processed,” Stefanovic told a news conference, adding “the raids are still going on.”

He said such police actions would be carried out regularly, and  that “the state won’t stop persecuting all those involved in the most serious crimes. Especially those suspected of violence, murders and attempted murders.”

Stefanovic said the ministries of Interior and Justice would suggest to President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic changes in laws to increase the efficiency of the fight against crime and tightening penalties for the most severe crimes during Saturday’s meeting of the National Security Council.
