Expert warns of implications of Kosovo's Interpol accession

Kosovo’s accession to the Interpol would have implications not only on Serbia but entire security system of Europe, said Dusko Tomic, a security expert and professor of the Dubai-based American University.

Speaking for N1, Tomic said that Kosovo’s accession to the Interpol would be a “difficult game” and this would require two-thirds of votes.

According to Tomic, this is not only a political or security issue but “as it always gets, a balance between the power and interests.”

The chances of politics prevailing over security are equal, the professor said.

Asked what kind of implications this might have on Serbia, Tomic noted that such an outcome would not only affect this country.

“Those would be the implications on entire security system of Europe. Why would they implement former members of organised criminal and terrorist groups who are now in the governmental system of Kosovo into the Interpol system,” Tomic wondered.

Once the politics get involved in that security system, the professor added, there is a chance to impose the will of those who, according to him, hold the power at this moment.
