Tirana confirmed on Thursday that former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski went to Hungary through Albania, while Montenegro’s Interior Ministry said that Gruevski was on its territory on November 11, N1 reported.

Macedonian media said the only mystery was where from Gruevski, who was a national warrant, left Macedonia.

Gruevski has been sentenced to two years in prison by a court in Macedonia for illegally buying a luxury Mercedes car worth 600,000 Euros during his term as prime minister.

His passport was seized in 2017.

The Macedonian police issued a warrant for his arrest on Monday after he failed to report to the prison to start serving his sentence.

Albanian police said that on the day Gruevski was in the country there was no any Interpol of Macedonian warrant for his arrest.

It added that former Prime Minister crossed the Albanian-Montenegro border by the Hungarian embassy in Tirana diplomatic car.

Gruevski said on Tuesday that he had applied for political asylum in Hungary, the Beta news agency reported.

Last Tuesday, Gruevski wrote on his Facebook profile that he was “in Budapest and have asked the Hungarian authorities for asylum,” adding he had received many death threats over the past few days.
