Serbian road company rejects blame for accidents

Putevi Srbije

The Serbian national road maintenance company Putevi Srbije has rejected any blame for the pile-ups in which eight people died on the highway outside the town of Jagodina.

Putevi Srbije expressed condolences and deep regret to the families of the people killed in the traffic accidents but added that it had put up traffic signs and fog markers suited to weather conditions on each road. “The signs and markers are adapted to the weather, that is fog signs and white markers have been placed on and along the road to inform drivers that they need to slow down,” a press release said.

“The road is in satisfactory condition and the signs, markers and equipment are undamaged. Most probably low visibility caused by fog and the wrong speed caused the catastrophic traffic accidents which happened on the highway between Cuprija and Jagodina but we will leave it to the competent institution to determine the cause of the accidents,” Putevi Srbije said.
