The Belgrade city parliament voted on Tuesday to approve the forming of a communal services company to build a metro, transport passengers and develop a city railway.

The Belgrade Metro and Train company will have a three-member oversight committee and a CEO to be appointed by the city authorities as its founder.

The first feasibility study for a metro system in the Serbian capital was completed in the late 1960s with the digging of tunnels started several years later. The Belgrade city authorities under then Mayor Sinisa Mali presented plans for a city-wide metro system and announced plans to start its construction on several occasions.
