Serbia’s Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said that the police have apprehended a 36-year-old Branislav M. from Sremska Mitrovica.

He is suspected of entering the house of the grandfather of Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic’s wife, robbing him, pulling him out and tying him to a power line pole and then trying to extort EUR two million from the family.

The police also found certain items that are proof of the criminal offense, Stefanovic said, pointing out that the entire event was treated as a „low level case,“ which was not aimed at the Djokovic family.

Stefanovic added that the police are still looking for one more person who helped the perpatrator.
