Pacoli claims pressure from Brussels over Sandzak visit

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacoli says he is under pressure from Brussels following the invitation to visit the town of Novi Pazar in western Serbia.

Pacoli said he has asked the authorities in Belgrade for permission to visit the town in the Sandzak region bordering Kosovo but added that he will not go without permission.

Pacoli was invited by the Bosniak National Council. The Sandzak region which is divided between Serbia and Montenegro has a large Moslem population.

“I will not be like (Serbian government Office for Kosovo chief) Marko Djuric,” he said.

Djuric was arrested earlier this year after entering Kosovo without permission from the authorities in Pristina and expelled from Kosovo.

Pacoli said he would go on the visit in his official capacity not as a private individual who does not need to ask permission.
