Serbia won’t respond to provocation from Croatia, President Aleksandar Vucic said commenting photographs of former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and war-time military commander Ante Gotovina holding their hands in the shape of wings like Albanian players did at the World Cup.

The Swiss national team’s ethnic Albanian players Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri held their hands in the shape of eagles to symbolize the eagle on the Albanian national flag after scoring at a World Cup match against Serbia.

“It’s not a problem for Serbia and we should not respond. What they did speaks about them, not us,” Vucic said, adding that Mesic and Gotovina are “used to hatred”.

Asked to comment the photograph being circulated on social networks, Croatia’s ex-President Mesic said the picture is old and not a sign of support to the Swiss team players. “It was a long time ago and I don’t remember the occasion, it’s obviously in private,” Mesic told the Beta news agency, adding that the picture has no political connotation.
