EU Parliament MP: EC visa regime threats are unacceptable

European Parliament MP Tanja Fajon finds it unacceptable that the European Commission is threatening to introduce visas for citizens of Western Balkan countries.

European Parliament Representative Tanja Fajon expressed concern over an attempt by the the European Commission and other EU political leaders to blame certain countries for Europe’s inefficient immigration policies.

„The threat from the EU Commissioner for migration, Dimitris Avramopoulos, is aimed at all countries of the Western Balkans, and is ultimately unacceptable,“ Fajon told the local Vecernje Novosti newspaper.

Fajon said the threats could only come from people who do not know how to respond to the situation.

Europe’s visa-free regime was a large step forward for all countries in the region, Fajon said, pointing out that Serbia managed its sudden and large influx of migrants well and humanely.

Fajon said no specific country was mentioned in regard to the establishment of migrant admission centres, but that there are various initiatives.

„The attempt to open these centres is also a reflection of unsuccessful European politics. Tunisia and Albania have been spoken about the most. I hope it will not be in Libya,“ Fajon said.
