The unemployment rate in Serbia is lower than in most other countries of the Western Balkans but it is still among the highest in Europe, the Demostat web site said on Friday quoting data from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

According to data collected late last year, Serbia has an unemployment rate of 15.8 percent.

The only country in the region with a lower unemployment rate is Albania with 15.4 percent. Montenegro’s unemployment rate stands at 17.1 percent, Macedonia’s (FYROM) at 24.2 percent and the unemployment rate in Bosnia-Herzegovina at 25.7 percent.

Of the European Union member states, Greece and Spain have higher unemployment rates with 23.3 percent and 19.7 percent, respectively. Other EU member states have unemployment rates as low as 0.5 percent, according to the ILO.
