About 500 of the expected 2,000 members of the Hells Angels club have arrived in the Serbian town of Jagodina for their annual gathering, the local Mayor Zoran Gligorijevic said on Thursday.

He said another 900 have crossed the border into Serbia to attend the May 29-June 5 central gathering of the European branches of the Hells Angels. Most of the bikers are from Europe but some have come from as far away as Egypt the Mayor siad.

Gligorijevic said there would be no biker parade. “There will be concerts every evening from 05:00 pm by both Serbian and foreign groups,” he said.

Commenting the tension over the arrival of the bikers, the Jagodina Mayor said he expects no problems from the Hells Angels members who he said are people with families. “We see them as any other tourists,” he said but added that the number of police patrolling the town has been raised to prevent any trouble.
