Serbia’s Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic said on Tuesday that the statements regarding Kosovo made by both an EU and Belgrade’s officials were magnified and unnecessary.

Sem Fabrizi, the chief of the EU delegation to Serbia has said that Kosovo is the main condition for Belgrade’s EU membership, prompting Serbia’s Defence Minister to say that if that was the case, his country should reconsider its foreign policy’s priorities.

“Neither the issue of normalisation of Belgrade – Pristina relations can be the most important for our European integrations, nor our government’s foreign policy is based on a currently unfavourable atmosphere in some member countries regarding the enlargement ahead of the next May’s EU elections,” Joksimovic told Vecernje novosti Belgrade daily.

She reiterated that the EU membership was Serbia’s main foreign policy goal that had so far brought the country stability, new investments mostly from the EU states, a new, better image and the international reputation and comparative influence, free visa regime…

“Despite the interests of some countries outside the EU and some from within the bloc to discourage Serbia by messages that should generate frustration and bad mood, we know what our citizens’ interests are and we will continue to reform our society and economy,” Joksimovic said.

Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Monday that the country’s interest and determination as a state  were to continue down the road of European integration.

„Minister Vulin can have a personal view but this is state policy,” Brnabic told reporters in Serbia’s northern city of Novi Sad.
