Serbia is drawing closer to the energy goals it accepted on the road to the European Union, the country’s Mining and Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic said on Thursday.

Antic said the country is getting increasing amounts of power from renewable sources, adding that it has upgraded its production and distribution capacities and energy efficiency.

Speaking by video link from the European Union – Western Balkans summit in Sofia, Antic told an energy efficiency conference in Belgrade that the country will get a 250 MW wind farm this year and another 250 MW of power from renewable sources in 2019.

Serbia has managed to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings by an average of 40 percent, he said and added that he expects the country to get close to the goal of producing 27 percent of its power from renewable sources by the year 2020.
