Serbia is seeing a slight drop in the number of migrants, the country’s Refugee Commissioner told the Serbian state TV (RTS).

Commissioner Vladimir Cucic said there are about 3,500 migrants in Serbia at the moment, adding that the number of asylum seekers among them is dropping. “We are seeing a slight drop in numbers, not a rise as we expected. There are 3,500 refugees in the entire country,” Cucic said.

The commissioner said that he does not expect a “migrant pocket” to form in Serbia if the other countries in the region close their borders.

Fewer migrants are choosing to stay in Serbia and seek asylum, he said adding that people are coming in with money and ideas about how to move forward with new routes being opened. Cucic said Serbia should be proud of the fact that all refugee children have been inoculated and are in school with local children.
