Three projects in Serbia won the Europa Nostra award for projects aimed at preserving the country’s cultural heritage.

The restoration of the Prince Milos Pavilion at the Bukovicka Banja spa was awarded as “a good recovery of a monument, which has maintained its original use following a natural disaster. The result has been achieved with a modest budget, setting a good example for other spa towns throughout Europe”, the jury said.

Adding that “the spa concept is relevant in a large part of Europe and Art Nouveau was a typical style for these structures”.

The European Union Cultural Heritage award also went to the project to conserve and rehabilitate the 14th century Bac fortress as part of the Centuries of Bac project which the jury felt is an exceptional example of heritage preservation based on interdisciplinary collaboration. “The project leaders have made use of European resources to research and carry out necessary preliminary investigations, which in turn has led to the implementation of a correct management strategy. A sustained effort has been made to maintain the aspect of the ruin through careful conservation. In addition there is a strong educational component relevant to the entire region”, the jury said.

The project to Research and Catalog the Serbian State Art Collection was given the award as a project “of excellent quality of research on a remarkable collection of art” which produced a bilingual fine arts catalog of high quality, making a significant contribution to the history of art and art collecting. The awards will be presented in Berlin on June 22.
