Albin Kurti, Kosovo Albanian politician and activist, said on Friday the Serbs in Kosovo were frightened by Belgrade’s parallel structures in Kosovo especially after the assassination of a Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic,

The head of “Self-determination” movement told klix.ba website that the fear intensified after the assassination of a Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic in January, adding the Serbs did not fear Albanians.http://rs.n1info.com/a380131/English/NEWS/No-results-of-Ivanovic-murder-investigation.html

“We don’t know what the Serbs think as long as they are under the influence of the parallel (political) structures. Many of them privately agree with me, but cannot say that in public because Belgrade knocks on the door immediately,” Kurti said in an interview carried by Beta news agency.

He said he believed that Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic followed the late strongman Slobodan Milosevic’s policy which meant that a Serb in Kosovo had to be loyal to him, and that it did not matter if he had a national conscience, or spoke Serbian, or honoured Serb culture and tradition.

“That is to say that being a Serb in Kosovo is a matter of loyalty to Belgrade, a not a matter of national affiliation. In my opinion, that is a violation of human and citizens’ rights,” Kurti said.

He  advocates policy of Belgrade being as far as possible from Kosovo, saying that “whenever Belgrade is too close, the relations between the Serbs and the Albanians were worsening,” and vice versa.

Kurti, an MP, is in opposition to the current regime of President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and advocates a referendum on Kosovo’s status. His movement’s slogan is „No negotiations, Self-Determination.”
