Nela Kuburovic, Serbia’s Justice Minister, said on Wednesday that the Law on preventing domestic violence “fulfilled the main goal” of establishing a multi-sector cooperation and good coordination of police, prosecutors and courts.

The law which came into force on Ma1, 2017, has a preventive function since that up to date over 30,000 case of domestic violence have been reviewed, Kuburovic told Serbia’s state television RTS.

“Those are not just new cases. The prosecutors and courts are also dealing with those reported earlier,” she said.

Kuburovic added that the fact that “over 12,000 urgent measures have been taken, the law prevented either the violence from happening or its escalation.”

A report by the Politika daily earlier this month said that a total of 18 women were killed in domestic violence incidents in Serbia this year which is more than in any of the past decades. http://rs.n1info.com/a380723/English/NEWS/More-women-die-in-domestic-violence-incidents.html
