Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic and Belgium Prime Minister Charles Michel, told a joint news conference in Belgrade on Tuesday that the Western Balkans should remain one of the European Union’s priorities.

They also said the solution to Kosovo issue was of a great significance and that any compromise sought understanding of all sides. That was, according to Vucic, the main topic since Kosovo remained the greatest stumbling block on Belgrade’s path to the EU.

He said that Michel had some new ideas regarding the Kosovo issue, but added he could not be more specific before the EU decide on them.

Vucic added that the two also talked about the situation in the region, bilateral cooperation and European integrations.

Beta news agency quoted Michel as saying he considered Serbia as the key player in the region and an important country for Europe and the future of EU.

Speaking about the reforms Serbia had to implement on its way to the bloc’s membership, including the rule of law and media freedom, Belgium PM said the EU was not a project based on agreements, but rather on social values.

Earlier on Tuesday, Michel who is on a two-day visit to Serbia, met with his counterpart Ana Brnabic.
