The only realistic option for lasting and sustainable stabilisation of the South-East region is its integration with the EU, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic has told Greek FM Nikos Kotzias during their meeting in Belgrade on Wednesday (April 11).

Serbia, according to Vučić, gives a great significance to its relations with Greece based on “firm friendship and historically confirmed closeness and solidarity between the two nations“.

He specifically stressed appreciation for Greek support to Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and Athens’ refusal to recognise Kosovo’s independence, said the statement from the Vučić office.

It quoted him as saying that EU membership topped Serbia’s foreign policy objectives and that the fast integration of the entire South-East Europe was crucial for the regional stability.

Earlier, some Greek media reports said Athens planned to open a Kosovo diplomatic office in Athens. Kotzias denied it, saying that the office would be economic one and that his country did not and would not recognise Kosovo independence.

In the meeting with his Serbia’s counterpart Ivica Dacic, Kotzias invited him to visit Greece, and suggested the formation of a trilateral alliance of Greece, Spain and Serbia, said the statement from Dacic’s office.
