State Department official Palmer talks to Kosovo officials, Serbs

State Department Director for South Central European Affairs Matthew Palmer told Kosovo Albanian and Serb political leaders in Pristina that the US would continue supporting the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue including the implementation of existing agreements.

President Thaci told Palmer that Pristina is “ready for the final stage of the dialogue with Belgrade and is committed to finding a lasting solution which will reinforce peace in the region and all of Europe”. Thaci and Palmer said the only way to reach regional stability and a lasting peace is through the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Prime Minister Haradinaj told the US official that Kosovo is committed to its own consolidation as a state, deepening of cooperation with the US and to EuroAtlantic integration processes. Palmer told Serb political leaders that Washington supports the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and encourages the implementation of agreements.

Officials of the Serb List party said the forming of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM – a body with some executive powers as agreed in the Brussels Agreement), creating conditions for refugees to return home and the return of seized property are crucial problems which have to be solved quickly. They said the incident in Mitrovica on March 26 (when Serbian government official Marko Djuric was arrested for illegally crossing the border) is something that should not happen again for the sake of stability.
