India's TAFE tractor maker won't employ 800 people at its plant in Serbia

The Indian tractor maker TAFE on Thursday (April 5) denied claims by Serbia’s Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimović that it would be employing 800 people in its plant in Belgrade.

TAFE’s Europe Director Kamal Ahuja said there was never any promise to open 800 new jobs when the Indian company bought the bankrupt Serbian Machine and Tractor Industry (IMT) last week.

“I certainly never mentioned that,” Ahuja told the Insajder portal and added that the TAFE plant in India makes 60,000 tractors a year with much fewer than 800 employees.
