The Serbian Organized Crime Court sentenced a group of men for financing and recruiting terrorists

The Organized Crime Court in Belgrade handed down the first sentences against Serb nationals charged with involvement in combat operations in Syria on Wednesday (April 4).

The seven men were given sentences ranging from 7 to 11 years in prison for charges including financing terrorism and recruiting combatants.

They were indicted for collecting money across the region to send Serbian nationals to training camps and into combat in Syria for the Islamic State (ISIS) and the Al Nousra Front starting early in 2013. Both those groups were declared terrorist organizations by the United Nations.

Three of the men were sentenced in absentia.
