A total of 14 TV stations have applied for national frequency licences, the FoNet news agency was told by the Serbian electronic media watchdog REM which issues the permits.

The REM (Regulatory Body for Electronic Media) said that Pink, Happy, Vesti, BK, Una, Nova S, N1, Prva, B92, Kopernikus, TV2, TV K1, TV Tanjug and Kurir TV applied for licences to broadcast on one of the four national TV frequencies that the REM invited applications for.

The REM said that the decision on the licences will be taken within 30 days of the deadline to apply as defined by the law on electronic media. The competition for the licences closed on Monday, June 20. The competition was called because the broadcasting permits for Happy, Pink, B92 And Prva TV expire in August. All four are pro-government stations.

The competition called by the REM did not include the fifth frequency which has not been in use for almost 10 years since TV Avala shut down.
