Serbian Public Administration and Local Self-Government  Minister Marija Obradovic told N1 on Monday the ministry’s 2021 budget was increased by 50 percent allowing it implement more local projects and reinforce local administration capacities.

They say that policy is what you decide to spend money on and at this moment that was a strong message from the Serbian government which decided to increase this years ministry budget by more than 50 percent. More money means that we will be able to implement local projects and use part of the funds to reinforce the capacities of people in local administrations,” she said.

She said that the ministry has drafted a strategy of public administration reform which will provide guidelines for the next 10 years. She added that the ministry will focus on completing the reform of the wages system, developing e-administration and reinforcing local authorities.

She said that her main impression in her first month and a half in office is that local authorities across Serbia are interested in having a single administration center. “That is a centralized, an office in each municipality with desks to provide service and you go to one desk and finish everything you need to do A single administrative position saves you time and money, an efficient local administration,” she said and added that there will be 14 cities and town which have set up those single administrative offices.

The minister said that central population register is being tested and should be fully operational this spring. She said that the population are being called to check their data online, adding that she thinks the procedure is too complicated at present. Obradovic said that a Data Center has been set up with all the information from public institutions and companies in it.
