Serbian pandemic crisis response team virusologist Dr Tanja Jovanovic said on Wednesday that only the British strain of the coronavirus has been confirmed in the country to date.

“The Brazilian strain has not entered Serbia yet. We are sequencing the virus genome in patients and we have not found the Brazilian strain yet and can’t assume that we will,” she told the Serbian state TV (RTS).

The CEO of Belgrade’s newest COVID hospital Dr Tatjana Adzic Vukicevic said on Tuesday that the Brazilin strain of the coronavirus has been identified in Serbia.

According to Jovanovic, the British strain is the dominant “threatening strain” in Serbia. She said that a national study is being drafted on the effects of vaccination which will investigate both antibodies and cell response among people who have been inoculated and people who recovered, as well as tests to see if people get infected repeatedly by the same strain.
