The FoNet news agency was told by sources at the German Embassy in Belgrade that it received no formal written apology from the Serbian authorities following Internal Affairs Minister Bratislav Gasic’s false claim that the German secret services were protecting the killer of a Kosovo Serb politician.

Gasic told a June 21 parliamentary debate that the man who killed Kosovo Serb opposition politician Oliver Ivanovic was under the protection of Germany’s secret services who had been asked for information on the alleged killer. The minister claimed later that he was asking a question not making a statement.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic apologized for the false claim on Thursday saying that Belgrade had reeived assurances from Berlin that nothing was being kept hidden. “I am asking for my apology to be accepted,” he told reporters.

The German Embassy sources told FoNet that a verbal apology is sufficient.
