A lion cub was found in the Subotica area on Thursday and taken to the local zoo, the Subotica.com portal reported.

The female lion cub was found by a local man driving to work. He stopped when he saw the cub which he said was not aggressive and seemed tired and emaciated.

This was not the first reported sighting of a wild feline in northern Serbia. A black panther was reported in the area around the city of Sombor a few months ago with speculation that it had escaped from a circus or a private zoo.

He posted a picture of the cub on a Viber group drawing the attention of local people and the police. The local zoo was contacted and its staff took the cub to a veterinary before taking it to the zoo. Zoo staff said that it was not one of their cubs, adding that it could be up to 6 months old.
