The Vojvodina Assembly held Friday its first meeting following the December 17 elections, verifying its members’ terms in office in the absence of the opposition Serbia Against Violence coalition.

The largest opposition group refused to attend the Friday session, insisting that the December elections were illegitimate.

MPs of the NADA-New Democratic Party of Serbia-Movement to Restore election ticket voted in favor of adopting the election commission’s report, even though they initially reached an agreement with the MPs of the Serbia Against Violence on not taking part in the session.

The verification commission adopted the report with 80 instead of 120 votes in favor.

Damir Zobenica, who tops the Aleksandar Vucic-Serbia Must Not Stop ticket, told a media conference following the session that they are very disappointed with the opposition’s decision to boycott the session.

“We have always resolved all political disagreements through conversation and fair relations. I regret that the people who won 30 seats did not even respond to the invitation for consultations, did not participate in the meeting, but this will not affect the work of such an important body in the country,” said Zobenica.

He then “reminded” all those present that they are in the Vojvodina Assembly and that there is no need for a “political circus.”
