The Novi Sad city authorities ordered the removal of graffiti spray painted overnight saying Kosovo is Serbia among other things, the local 021 portal reported on Monday.

Other graffiti said Aca (diminutive of Aleksandar) Cheater in an allusion to President Vucic and No Capitulation, the same wording used at a right-wing anti-government protest last month in front of the Serbian Presidency building. Vucic’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is in power in the northern Serbian city.

The portal said it received a written reply from the mayor’s cabinet saying that inspectors found the graffiti on the walls of City Hall. The reply included a picture of communal services staff painting over the words Kosovo is Serbia. The slogan has been used by nationalists (including the SNS) to reflect popular sentiment about Kosovo.

The graffiti was painted using stencils in several locations in the center of Novi Sad.
