Pandemic Crisis Staff member: Situation should be more relaxed after the summer

The coronavirus epidemic will last for a while but the situation should be significantly more relaxed after the summer, epidemiologist and member of Serbia’s pandemic Crisis Staff, Dr. Predrag Kon, said on Saturday.

„Personally, I don’t think we need to constantly prove that the vaccine is good. We have a regulatory body which is among the top 50 in the world. That’s enough. I think the situation is changing drastically. More effective drugs will emerge, this will last, but as it is now. I think that the situation will be significantly more relaxed after the summer,” Kon told Blic.

Immunologist Dr. Srdja Jankovic, also a member of the Crisis Staff, said that the small number of newly registered cases of COVID-19 in Serbia should not be interpreted as a signal that it is time to relax and pointed out that despite the improved situation, hospital capacities are close to full.

He added that the reason for the smaller number of newly registered cases is that fewer people request testing during the holidays.

„It takes time for the smaller number of newly registered infections to reflect on the number of people with a difficult clinical picture,“ Jankovic told TV Pink.
