The head of the Veterans’ Association of Bosnia’s Serb-dominated Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milomir Savcic, who BiH prosecutors accuse of involvement in the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide, is not in Serbia at the moment, the country's Interior Ministry said.

The Court of BiH decided to issue an international arrest warrant for Savcic on Tuesday.

According to the indictment, Savcic, a former general of the RS Army, was fully aware of the intention of the main perpetrators of the genocide to partially exterminate the national, ethnic and religious group of Bosniaks in Srebrenica and helped and supported the killing of male members of the Bosniak group.

Prosecutors asked for him to be taken into custody on Monday, arguing that he violated prohibitive measures by making statements about the charges against him to the media. The court agreed.

However, police did not find him at his address that evening.

This prompted speculation in BiH that he may have escaped to Serbia.

Serbia’s Interior Ministry said it checked with Border police whether Savcic entered Serbia and found that this was not the case.

The Ministry called on the media in Bosnia to refrain from reporting “unverified and inaccurate information that serves as a basis for individuals to involve Serbia in their personal disputes.”
