Flight delays will continue, expert warns

A civil aviation expert told N1 on Monday that the delays and crowds at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla airport will continue for the rest of the summer season.

Belgrade airport is operated by the French Vinci Airports company under a concession granted by the Serbian government. There have been problems at the airport for more than a month due to a lack of staff, fuel tanking problems and other issues which caused flight delays. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Goran Vesic met with airport managers to try to solve the problem recently but the delays are continuing despite promises that more staff would be hired.

Civil aviation security expert Milan Kuc said that “the crowds are inevitable and guaranteed to last out the season and this is not a problem at Belgrade airport but for the global aviation market”.

According to Kuc, several things caused the delays in Air Serbia flights including the shortage of airport staff.

“That affected the regularity of flights to a great extent. Airlines and operators have to take the necessary measures to make sure flights are regular. We see that we had a number of problems recently caused by the situation at the airport and other technical and technological reasons,” Kuc said.
