The Serbian government’s GDP Council said on Monday that the economy is picking up speed and could reach the planned growth of 2.5 percent this year, a government press release said.
“Prime Minister Ana Brnabic presided today over a session of the Council for the Coordination of Activities and Measures for the Growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), at which it was concluded that the Serbian economy is accelerating and that, if it continues at the current pace of development, it can achieve the planned GDP growth of 2.5 percent in 2023, despite the significant slowdown of the European economy and especially the economies of the countries on which we are most focused,” the press release said.
According to the Council, the economy recorded a growth of 1.7 percent in the second quarter of the year with the trend continuing into the third quarter.
The press release said that employment rose by 2.3 percent in the second quarter and added that foreign direct investments could exceed expectations.
