FIAT employees block road to Kragujevac

Tanjug/ Nebojša Raus

Employees of the FIAT Automobiles Serbia plant in Kragujevac blocked a major road on Monday afternoon.

Protest organizers said that the road connecting the central Serbia city to Kraljevo and Cacak would be blocked for two hours from 3 to 5 pm to express dissatisfaction with the social program offered by the Serbian government after FIAT said it plans to cut employee numbers and offered some staff jobs abroad. Organizers said more protests would be staged in Kragujevac itself with plans to go to Belgrade on Wednesday.

An N1 reporter said there were no incidents with traffic police redirecting vehicles to other roads.

The Zajedno (Together) political group lent its support to the protests. Some of the group’s officials were present at the road block.
