Kopernikus has 3% of total number of users, agency says Izvor: N1

The Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) official report for the 2018 second quarter says Serbia has 1.7 million subscribers, three percent of whom, or 51.000, use Kopernikus, the cable provider which the Telekom Srbija has acquired, N1 reported.

However, Telekom Srbija, a company with the state as a major shareholder,  paid some 200 million Euros for the Kopernikus Technology, saying the purchase secured them, 200.000 users.

The company denied reports the acquisition included the Kopernikus television, adding it was not interested in buying any TV station.

The issue caused different reactions, including statements from a former and the current presidents of Serbia.

Aleksandar Vucic, the head of state, said that “the only aim of the opposition is to destroy Telekom.”

“We are talking about a cable operator. So Telekom is on the market and is not a public enterprise, it's a shareholding company,” Vucic said, speaking from Helsinki where he attended the European Peoples’ Parties’ (EPP) Congress.

A former president, now an opposition leader, Boris Tadic, described the purchase as “one of the three largest financial machinations in Serbia,” adding Vucic’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) intended to use the Kopernikus’ system to secure the control of media on Serbia.
