Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic warned on Wednesday that the fact that Kosovo President Hashim Thaci does not have the support of Albanian politicians is the key problem in the Belgrade-Pristina negotiations.
Ljajic told Belgrade’s TV Prva that Thaci has a serious legitimacy problem . “I believe that Thaci has a serious problem in terms of political legitimacy since virtually no political group, opposition or in power and not even the people in power such as Prime Minister (Ramush) Haradinaj support the process to resolve the Kosovo issue,” he said, adding that he does not see how the Kosovo president can effect a solution in the talks with Serbia.
The deputy prime minister said the most important thing is for Serbia to continue its constructive and pro-active role in the search for a long-term, viable solution. “I think that the key problem in the next stage of the dialogue is whether we can reach a compromise solution. The question of political legitimacy will be opened in Pristina,” Ljajic said.
