Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic said he was very happy to be in northern Kosovo, after crossing the Brnjak administrative border-crossing in Ibarski Kolasin on Saturday afternoon.
Vucic arrived in Zubin Potok and visited the Centre for Ecology and Sports Development on the shores of Lake Gazivode.
While staying in Gazivode, he said he felt wonderful and that he was happy to be in Kosovo, adding that his visit is aimed at preserving peace and stability.
"The idea is to preserve peace and stability for as long as possible and to try to create better relations between Serbs and Albanians," he said.
Vucic added that Serbia brings the message of peace to Albanians.
"We’ve tried everything but that hasn’t brought much luck to either side. It’s time to start working with each other with a lot more respect. It would be wonderful if we were to succeed, but success takes time and many good men who’d work on reaching that success," the President stressed.
He added that it will be difficult to reach any kind of an agreement with Kosovo because Serbia does not have the support of the international community, but it is important to preserve peace.
"I don’t believe it’s possible to implement any of my ideas regarding Kosovo. You’ve heard what German Chancellor Angela Merkel said and what Albanians are saying," he said, adding that Serbs living south of the Ibar river have no reason to worry.
"My power is minimal compared to the power of Angela Merkel and if she says something then that will definitely not change," Vucic concluded.
During Angela Merkel's Saturday visit to Macedonia, she said that territorial integrity is paramount for the stability and closer cooperation of the Western Balkan region with the European Union.
Later in the afternoon, Vucic visited Leposavic, where a business forum was held.
Speaking to forum participants, the Serbian President said that the state will provide subsidies to entrepreneurs from central Serbia who wish to invest in Kosovo and called on all entrepreneurs to invest not just in Serb, but also in Albanian municipalities.
“We’ll make a good subsidy program and it will be submitted to the Government in the form of regulation as soon as possible,” Vucic said after visiting the stands at the forum and speaking to local entrepreneurs.
On Sunday, Vucic will attend the central meeting in Mitrovica, Kosovo
